Plot: Rajesh's marriage is fixed to Pooja. With great gusto the families get together to plan the engagement and marriage ceremonies. At these ceremonies, Rajesh's younger brother, Prem meets Pooja's younger sister, Nisha, and after a few meetings both fall in love with each other. But a family tragedy threatens to separate them.
Aamir Khan was originally given the role of Prem, but he refused to act in the movie, because he didn't find the script appealing. Salman Khan who was going through a bad career phase was then signed. The movies massive success, revived Salman Khan's career, which was originally doomed with successive flops.
Filmmaker Karan Johar named it as the one film that changed his life. He said, "After seeing Hum Aapke Hain Koun..! I realized Indian cinema is about values, tradition, subtlety, romance. There is so much soul in it."
It was a remake of Rajshri studio's 1982 film 'Nadiya Ke Paar'.
Ugress song "Manhattan Sapphire" sampled the song "Joote Dedo, Paise Lelo".
"Jutte Lo Paise Do" song set the trend of hiding bridegroom's shoes in wedding in Nepal. It was a common tradition in Indian weddings before that.
Rajesh Khanna was offered Alok Nath's role but he declined.
Before Madhuri was cast in the lead role, Sooraj Bartajya was about to sign Nikki Aneja.
The song 'Didi Tera Devar' was inspired by 'Saare Nabian' by Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.

A number of members of the cast, including lead actors Salman Khan and Monish Behl had worked on a previous film directed by Sooray Barjatya - Maine Pyar Kiya. They would go on to work with him in other Rajshri productions like Hum Saath Saath Hain and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo.
The songs of this movie were huge hits and are still played in India wedding celebrations.

Rajshri released a wide range of merchandise of Hum Aapke Hain Koun..! The merchandise was a sellout and Rajshri ultimately had more than two hundred different types of products in the form of posters, letter pads, stickers, writing pads, key chains and many more.
Hum Aapke was dubbed in English and its International Version is called Yours Forever.
